So onto group B where endless Spanish talent and Ronaldo co-exist. As usual, there is at least one player from every competing nation.

 GK: De Gea

Despite his howler against Portugal last night, De Gea is clearly the stand out keeper at the World Cup and arguably the best in the world.

Carrying an injury from the Champions League final, Carvajal was replaced by teammate Nacho (who scored a supreme half volley in his absence. That said, Carvajal is clearly a top-class Right-back and the best in group B.

 CB’s: Pique & Ramos

Despite shipping 3 goals yesterday, Pique and Ramos have been supreme leaders for their clubs and country. They will be key to Spain doing well at the finals.

LB: Alba

Sorry, this starting XI is getting a little Spanish – but there is a player from every national representing. Alba is clearly the best left-back in group B.

DMC: Busquets

As much as I didn’t want to make this boring, It’s essentially teams have a defensively minded operator in midfield. Portugal’s Carvalho isn’t a bad choice either, but no one can run a game quite like Sergio.

CM: David Silva

Perhaps the hardest decision to make in this side, especially with Iniesta and Moutinho vying for this position, but it has to be Silva – who’s just in his prime.

CAM: Isco

Ronaldo will take the plaudits last night, but Isco was Spain’s most classy player, taking more touches than anyone of the pitch and looking dangerous throughout. Could be key for Spain at this World Cup.

LW: Ziyech

So here we have it, our first player who isn’t from Spain! Taking his place at left-wing it’s Morroco midfielder Ziyech. Despite an anonymous performance yesterday from the Ajax midfielder, his 9 goals and 14 assists from central midfield made him one of the two stand-out players of the Eredivisie. The other being…

RF: Jahanbakhsh

The Iranian winger excelled at Alkmaar last season scoring an incredible 21 goals while chipping in with 12 assists. It was a quiet start for him yesterday, but he’s clearly Iran’s key player

CF: Ronaldo

Joint top international goalscorer of all time… the first player to score in his last 8 major international tournaments. GOAT?

So here’s the team:
